There’s hardly a spot on Earth, which provides so mich diversion and diversity as Madagascar. This tour is an amazing cross-section through the southern half of Madagascar, and there’s a lot to see and experience from beaches and rainforest to thorny forest’s. As a special highlight, you will take on a ride with the legendary jungle express during the “island of adventures” tour – the last existing persons’ train of the eighth continent. And of cause you will also meet ring-tailed lemurs, Madagascar’s most famous lemurs, in their natural habitat.
Antananarivo – Ranomafana
From the capital Antananrivo our guests are driven into south-eastern direction. On the road, you visit the cities of Antsirabe and Ambositra, known for their gemstone workshops and wood carvings. Having arrived at Ranomfana, it’s time for your first trip in the rainforests. Dicover the beauty of nature, visit the golden bamboo lemur or the Edward’s sifaka and many other endemic animals.
Fianarantosa – Manakara
After our stay in Ranomafana, we got to Madagascar’s eastcoast. First we drive to Fianarantsoa in the southern highlands, where we enter the famous “jungle express”, the one and only lasting train for persons in Madagascar. The trip to Manakara via train is a real adventure. If the train is not running, we can drive the way to Manakara via 4×4 without a problem. Manakara is where a nice boat trip in wooden pirogues starts for you. Enjoy the silence of the river!
Now our guest’s travel on to the south. You next stay is the small village Ambalavao. Here you will visit Anja Community Reserve and learn to know its drolly inhabitants, the famous ring-tailed lemurs or cattas. A little climbing journey leads you through rough canyons and enables fantastic views.
From Ambalavao, your tour continues to the southwestern part of the country until reaching Ranohira. The obviously inhospitable Isalo national park is a great place for an adventurous hike. But there’s a lot of life to discover, although not assumed at first appearance: Rarw plants, lemurs and other animals adapted perfectly to the harsh living conditions. Isalo also offers the possibility to refresh yourself in natural pools.
From Isalo mountains, the way leads you to the coast and Toliara (Tuléar). A journey takes you to the thorny forests of Ifaty, where you can marvel at the world famous monkey-bread trees (Baobabs). Afterwards, it’s time to take your domestic flight back to the capital of Tana.
Antananarivo – Ampefy
The next highlight of your travel is the small geysire of Ampefy. You go approximately 130 km from Tana, and visit a legendary waterfall, too. It was named after a girl, who disappeared and was never found again. The landscape of this region is a wonderful place for many photo motives.
The last destination of this round trip through Madagascar is the rainforest of Andasibe. From Ampefy you are driven to Antananarivo, and directly go on to the east. In Andasibe, you do various excursions to find the largest lemur of the world, the Indri, and to visit the diademed sifaka. Finally, after all these adventures you go back to Antananarivo and visit the handcrafts’ market before returning home.
