The amphibians and reptiles of Madagascar are as various as nothing else on Earth and offers lots of space for new discoveries. This amazing theme-photo-travel leads us deeply into untouched nature and shows every guest the diversity of a mostly unknown fauna and flora. During this trip, we collect data about the animals’ habitats, their habits, egglaying and UVB-radiation. Although this trip is dedicated to amphibians and reptiles primary, we will also encounter the most famous mammals of the island: Lemurs. One of our goals of this trip is to see just newly discovered species and document them.
You’re looking for an extraordinary special travel? Then this is your turn! Experience the unique nature of Madagascar and enjoy an amazing phototravel. Since we separate our group into smaller ones of same interest in national parks and reserves, this tour is also a great experience for non-photographers.
From the capital Tana we drive to the city of Ambositra. After an overnight stay we head on to the fantastic rain mountain rainforests of Ranomafana. You can find lots of endemic amphibians and reptiles here, especially the satanic leaf-tailed Gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus) and Parson’s chameleons (Calumma parsonii parsonii). Different excursions offer endless photo motives.
We continue our travel in southern direction and come to the foothills of Andringitra mountain. Here we encounter the most famous lemurs of the islands, the ring-tailed lemurs, and look for the recently described leaf chameleon Brookesia brunoi. In Anja Park, we climb over rocks and enjoy the great view from the top.
Antsirabe – Anjozorobe
Through the central highlands with their many rice fields, we drive to Antsirabe. This city is known for its thermal springs and gem stone workshops. We sleep one night here, before going to the rainforest of Anjozorobe. In this few visited national park, untouched nature is waiting for us. Special highlights here are the black Indris and for reptile enthusiasts the rare chameleons Calumma globifer and crypticum.
Andasibe – Vohimana
After many new experiences, we head on to the east. In the amazing mountain cloud forests of Andasibe we discover many chameleons, among them Calumma parsonii cristifer, Calumma gallus or nasutum. In several small groups, we discover the beauty of Analamazaotra and Vohimana, among them the “normally coloured” Indri.
We leave Andasibe and drive to the eastcoast. At the lake of kings, our boat leads us to a nice private reserve, which makes every animal photographer’s dreams come true: Lemurs, chameleons and other rare animals can be found here easily during different excursions. At the lake’s beach, we can enjoy the last days of our travel and leave all our cares behind. Afterwards it is time to go back to Tana and take your flight home.
