The Tanalahorizon Team on a Trip to the Tsingy de Bemaraha

THE TEAM BEHIND TANALAHORIZON

EXPERIENCE. PASSION.
MADAGASCAR.

With our experienced tour guides, you’ll discover a Madagascar full of adventure—from the mysterious rainforests to the fascinating traditions of ancestor worship. For us, it’s about much more than just exploring extraordinary places: We want to introduce you to the island’s unique flora and fauna, as well as its land, people, and culture — the real Madagascar.

All of our guides have completed several years of in-house training with us. They have excellent knowledge of animal species and know what it takes to reliably identify even rare and well-camouflaged animals. Whether it’s a chameleon, a lemur, or another special discovery along the way — with their trained eyes, they hardly ever miss a thing.

Together, we share a passion for a country whose very name promises adventure: MADAGASCAR!

Dr. Alexandra Negro „Alex”
Veterinarian

Alex is an enthusiastic expert on lemurs and reptiles — especially chameleons. On our expeditions, she’s the go-to person for everything that crawls and flies. She’s particularly passionate about seeking out extraordinary destinations where rare, little-studied, or long-unobserved reptiles can be found. In addition to her work as a veterinarian in Germany, Alex is the editor-in-chief of MadaMagazine and the attending veterinarian for the lemurs at a private reserve in Madagascar. Her enthusiasm for Madagascar’s unique wildlife and her scientific perspective make her a particularly valuable asset to our expeditions.

Mickaël Rakotomavo „Mika”
Guide

Mika is our go-to guy for vehicles and an absolute off-road expert — a skill that comes in handy everywhere in Madagascar. With his extraordinary eye for nature, hardly anything escapes his notice. Especially when it comes to animals! You could almost say he has bionic eyes: he spots even the best-camouflaged chameleons and other reptiles with astonishing accuracy. As a scout, Mika is constantly on the lookout for new, exciting destinations and unusual places for our trips. At the same time, he ensures that our vehicles perform reliably even on the most challenging trails. He’s a man whose intuition and experience we can always count on.

"Wir haben uns noch nie so gut aufgehoben gefühlt bzw. sind noch nie so familiär gereist wie hier. Man merkte schon, dass Tanalahorizon sehr tief und fest in Madagaskar verankert ist. Überall, wo wir mit unseren Guides auftauchen, wurden wir fast immer sehr bevorzugt behandelt und hatten auch fast immer das Privileg, vieles außerhalb der typischen Touristenpfade zu erleben."
