Key information at a glance: What are the accommodation options like on the trips?
Our tours use carefully selected, clean, mid-range hotels – most of which are under local management. Our selection is based on over 30 years’ experience in assessing comfort, cleanliness, the quality of food and a responsible approach to the natural environment and local communities. In remote regions, accommodation may be more basic. Luxury accommodation is very limited in Madagascar and should be booked well in advance.
Hotels/Bungalows/Lodges
Tourism in Madagascar is still in its infancy, and European standards are nowhere to be found. In the capital, and a few popular destinations such as the islands Nosy Be and Nosy Boraha (St. Marie), there are very comfortable hotels. In most other towns, there are no 5-star accommodation options available.
The accommodation we have chosen consists of clean, mid-range hotels, most of which are under Madagascan management. Unfortunately, in Madagascar there is no star rating system or other classification criteria for hotels. We therefore rely primarily on our 30 years’ experience regarding comfort, cleanliness and the quality of food in the respective hotels. When making our selection, we also place great importance on ensuring that the accommodation we book is run in harmony with nature and, in particular, with respect for the local population. Most of the hotels we have chosen are very stylish and offer a level of service tailored to our guests. However, if you venture into less-visited regions, the accommodation may be very basic. If you wish to stay exclusively in luxury hotels, please let us know well in advance. There are only a handful of first-class lodges across the whole of Madagascar, and they get booked up very quickly. You can read what our guests have to say about the accommodation we’ve selected in the Guest Testimonials.
