This classical south tour reflects the fascinating Malagasy culture as well as the diverse fauna and flora of Madagascar. You drive on the popular Route nationale No. 7 from Madagascar’s highlands in southern direction, and visit the most famous national parks of the island. Look behind the scenes of gemstones and crafts, gaze at the amazing canyons of Isalo and meet the ring-tailed lemurs, Madagascar’s most famous lemurs. At the end of the travel, you can relax at idyllic beaches between baobabs and thorny forests. The sunny south is waiting for you!
Antsirabe – Ambositra
From the capital Antananrivo we go 170 kilometres to Antsirabe. On the way, we’ll stop by the aluminium artists of Ampatolampy. In Antsirabe, you can visit the gemstone workshops and the street market. The next day we’ll go to a sacred lake, before continuing towards the south. The next small town is the capital of woodcarving, Ambositra. Here you can watch the wood carvers producing fascinating artworks from small pieces of wood.
Ranomafana
From Ambositra we’ll drive into the amazing rain forests of Ranomafana. In these dreamlike forests, you can observe various lemures, including the rare golden bamboo lemur, and a lot of amazing reptiles. After the excursion, you can relax in the hot springs which gave this locality its name.
Fianarantsoa – Ambalavao
From the rain forests, we continue towards the south. Our next destination is the Rocky Park near Ambalavao, home of the ring-tailed lemures (better known as Kattas). They are known to come close to the visitors – and there is a lot more to see in this great nature reserve.
Isalo
Next stop on our trip it Isalo national park. Between rugged sandstone cliffs, you can discover extremely rare animal and plant species. We advise you to bring your swimming clothes and a towel with you, then you can refresh yourself in the clean natural pools of the park.
Antsokay and Ifaty
From the mountains of Isalo our route brings us short before Toliara, directly to Arboretum Antsokay. In a wonderful hotel you can relax at the pool, have great diners, watch birds in the morning and look for reptiles at night. Afterwards, your travel brings you to the beautiful beaches of Ifaty. Here we’ve got time think about our whole trip and share memories before flying back to Tana and finally to Europe again.
