Western Madagascar is probably the place with the most popular landscape motives of the country. Among them UNESCO world nature heritage Tsingy de Bemaraha and famous Baobab alley. This travel gives you the opportunity to visit these places and feel their magic – we have brought together all these places in just two weeks of travel adventure. But this travel does not only contain landscape highlights: Meet the largest predator of Madagascar, the Fossa, and get enchanted by chameleons and lemurs.
This tour through the wild wild West offers a unique travel experience. And we dearly advise you to bring suncream and shorts: It’s gonna be hot!
Antananarivo – Antsirabe – Morondava
Our trip starts in Madagascar’s capital and leads us through the southern highland with its endless rice fields to Antsirabe. This is the place to see Malagasy handcrafts. The next morning, we will go for a long drive to the west while it’s getting hot slowly. We arrive in Morondava in the late afternoon. Maybe you already want to do a short foray to famous Baobab alley at dawn?
Belo sur Tsiribinha – Bekopaka
Along Baobab alley we travel along Route de Baobab that promises even more tree giants, until Belo sur Tsiribinha. A rustique ferry carries us over the river, and you may have lunch in Belo. Afterwards, it’s time to go offroad! 100 km on sandy slopes are a real challenge. In the early evening, you will move into your nice hotel room with first view over the dry forest.
Tsingy de Bemaraha
The first day in world famous Tsingy de Bemaraha gives us an impression of small Tsingys. It provides a foretaste of the following day! Experience canyons, amazing viewpoint along the “sea of needlestones” and meet the rare Van Decken sifakas. To visit the big Tsingys, you should be in good body condition and should not have fear of heights. After exciting excursions through the “fortress of species diversity”, you can relax at the hotel pool.
Kirindy
Our next destination is the dry forest of Kirindy. This protected area is home to Madagascar’s largest predator, the Fossa. And Kirindy offers best chances to see this elegant chaser. Of course, there is a lot more to see! Kirindy has the world’s smallest primate, the Earth’s shortest-living chameleon, curious Verreaux’ sifakas and the strange jumping rat. After this journey, we head back to Morondava.
Antsirabe – Andasibe
Via Antsirabe we drive to the rainforests of Andasibe. A whole new world is waiting for you! The dense evergreen jungle is inhabited by numerous chameleons, geckos and frogs. In the morning, the call of the Indri, Madagascar’s largest lemur, will wake you up. On day and night excursions we will meet all creatures of the wilderness. And after these gorgeous holidays, it will be time to leave soon. In the capital, Tana, you can visit the handcraft’s market before saying goodbye.
