We have packed an amazing cross section through northwestern Madagascar into this tour: You will experience the kingdom of birds, meet Malagasy people and their lifestyle and you will do great journeys through dry and rainforests with their huge variety in chameleons, leaf-tailed geckos and lemurs. Highlights of this travel are the most colorful reptiles of the World, Madagascar’s panther chameleons, in their different color variations and hiking right in the middle of famous Amber Mountain rainforest, one of the world’s forest highest in biodiversity.
This travel is the perfect mixture of relaxing at the beach, meeting many animals and experiencing adventure in Madagascar’s forests.
Antananarivo – Ankarafantsika
From Madagascar’s capital we head on 425 km to the west through the northern highlands. We take a break at Betsiboka river and reach Ankarafantsika national park in the early evening. The park is known for its richness in birds. Besides many feathered friends, you will find Coquerel’s sifakas, sacred crocodiles and the rare mongoose lemurs. Ambalabongo canyon is the colorful highlight of Ankarafantsika.
Antsohihy – Ankify
Our travel continues to the north. In the afternoon, we arrive in Antsohihy where we sleep one night. On the way to the coast there is enough time to look for beautiful panther chameleons along Ankaramy river and in the cocoa plantations of Ambanja. Before dusk you reach Ankify and enter your lovely bungalow at the beach. The next day you can relax on the hotel owned beach or go for snorkeling with sea turtles on dream island Nosy Tanikely (optional).
Ankarana
From Ankify’s relaxed beaches we drive to Ankarana’s Tsingys. This national park is home to many endemic plants and animals, and offers one of the landscape’s highlights of this travel with its needlestone rocks. Moreover, Ankarana owns the largest unterdround cave system of Africa. After an extensive hike through the park we will have a picnic inside the forest. For sure the curious crowned lemurs will come and visit you there!
Amber Mountain
A thrilling offroad tour will bring you to the red Tsingys, sandstone formations in a photogenic canyon. In the late afternoon, we arrive at your hotel in Ambohitra (Joffreville) where you may enjoy the evening relaxed and comfortably. The next morning we get to know the rainforest. Visit with us the sacred waterfalls and feel the magic of Amber Mountain with its endless geckos, frogs, chameleons and its unique, undescribable jungle giants.
Ramena – Diego Surarez
Our last destination is a small coastal village close to Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) at the northernmost tip of Madagascar. We drive along Diego’s bay wit its sugar loaf and arrive in Ramena around afternoon. Let your holidays pass in review while enjoying tasty food at the hotel pool. The next morning, we will bring you to the airport from where you fly back to the capital. In Antananarivo, you may visit the handcraft’s market for some souvenirs before getting your flight back home.
