This brand new photo travel brings our guests to the famous baobabs of southwest Madagascar, where we will meet the largest predator of the island face to face. Afterward, we travel to the fantastic rainforests of the east coast to discover colorful chameleons and fascinating lemurs. In this travel, the name says it all: We will be on the scent of nature, and enjoy the unique, endemic diversity of animals in Madagascar.
Antsirabe – Morondava
During our first morning in Madagascar, we drive 170 km in southern direction. Our goal is Antsirabe, the city of gemstones and thermal springs. We will stay one night here, and have the whole afternoon to explore the area. The following morning, we travel to the west coast. Around noon, we arrive in Miandrivazo and can take lunch before driving on. In the evening, we reach Morondava and famous Baobabs.
Tsingy de Bemaraha
Along endless Baobabs, Madagascar’s emblem, our way leads to Bekopaka. This is the point from where we start our excursions into UNESCO world nature heritage Tsingy de Bemaraha. During the next days, we will climb, overcome dizzying heights and maybe find an extremely rare chameleon, too. This is an adventure!
Kirindy
Early we start for our offroad tour along baobab alley to be in the dry forests of Kirindy in the middle of the day. We will spend several days here to meet Madagascar’s largest predator, the Fossa. These animals are mating now, and with a bit of luck, we’ll catch them in the act. Besides the Fossa, we’re looking forward to lemurs, reptiles, and birds.
Morondava – Antsirabe
After the exciting days in Kirindy, we drive back to Morondava. On the road, we have enough time to take pictures of the Baobabs in perfect sunlight. After arrival in Morondava, we can take dinner in Miss Schröder’s restaurant, before we return to Antsirabe the following day.
Andasibe
Today we cross the central highlands with all its many ricefields on the way to Andasibe. Here, in the evergreen rainforests, we can take pictures of the most colorful inhabitants of Madagascar. Chameleons, snakes and a high diversity of frogs will be our models. We stay some days to discover nature and relish real rainforest feeling. In Andasibe, you can hear the Indris calling at breakfast yet.
Akanin’ny Nofy
From the mountain cloud forest of Andasibe, we head on to the east coast. A drive of approximately three hours brings us to the lake of kings, where we enter our boat to Canal des Pangalanes. Akanin’ny Nofy, our hotel, means “nest of dreams”, and indeed it is: In this private reserve, our guests can leave all their cares behind, meet lemurs close up and swim in the warm lake. November, by the way, is the blooming time of many orchids.
Antananarivo
The last stage of our travel is coming. We drive to the central highlands and spend a night in Andasibe. If you like, we could do a side-trip to the former breeding farm for reptiles and amphibians in Mandrake, where many photo motives are waiting for us. In the evening, we arrive in the capital Antananarivo. The next morning, it is time to say goodbye.
